Share the simple things that help your wellbeing this Mental Health Month

Welcome to Mental Health Month!

While any time is a good time to talk about mental health, having a dedicated awareness month helps remind us that we are not alone, help is available if needed, and there are many things we can do to stay on top of our mental health – now and all year round.

Join the Conversation and Take Action

To celebrate Mental Health Month, and the positive conversations and actions it can spark, SANE is encouraging everyone to share the simple things that help make each day that bit easier or brighter using the hashtag #ShareYourOneThing.

Our Peer Ambassadors told us it’s the ‘little things’ and simple routines that help get through each day, particularly during lockdown – things like walking, running, sewing, cooking, singing, journaling or simply hugging loved ones, like our Patron, Osher Günsberg!

So we’re asking everyone to share their ‘one thing’ in the spirit that it might help others too.

There’s also science behind this; evidence shows that routines can really benefit our mental health, including increasing our motivation, reducing self-critical thinking, and helping create a sense of achievement.

So let’s get this conversation – and those ‘little things’ – started!

Head to SANE’s Facebook and Instagram to join the conversation throughout October, or #shareyourone thing on our dedicated thread on the SANE Forums, where you can chat with others, and share your ideas, thoughts and experiences in a safe, moderated space.

Access SANE’s Free Counselling and Support

Here are some of the many great ways SANE can support you this Mental Health Month:

  • Book a free counselling chat – book a call or chat online with a SANE Counsellor or Peer Support Worker at a time which suits you
  • Chat on our online Forums – and connect with other people who ‘get it’
  • Join a Topic Tuesday session online – with a chat dedicated to Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Week (7-8.30pm AEST, Tuesday 5 October), and a session for carers (7-8.30pm AEST, Tuesday 26 October). Visit the SANE Forums to register and find out more
  • Learn more – see SANE’s fact sheets and guides, and read personal stories for hope, information and inspiration on our blog.

You can also access information, stories and inspirational quotes from our Peer Ambassadors during Borderline Personality Disorder Awareness Week (1-7 October), National Carers Week, and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Week (both 10-16 October).

Let’s take care of ourselves and each other this Mental Health Month, and remember – free, professional support is only a click or a call away with SANE!
