Research examines impact of supporting someone who has attempted suicide

  • Share

SANE and the University of New England are looking for 1000 people to share their experiences of supporting someone who has attempted suicide.

The information provided will be used to inform the development of resources to better support people when someone they care about has attempted to end their life.

SANE General Manager Dr Michelle Blanchard explains that when someone attempts to take their own life, their family and friends can feel quite uncertain about how best to support their loved one.

“When a loved one attempts suicide, people often don’t know what to do to support the person’s recovery,” Dr Blanchard said.

“The research will help us to better understand the needs of people supporting a loved one following a suicide attempt and will enable us to develop resources to assist them during this difficult time.”

Participants are required to complete a 20-minute online survey and must be over 18 years of age.

This research is funded by the Ian Potter Foundation and Grenet Foundation.
