You are invited to take part in a study about SANE services.
We want to know if SANE services are helpful for people. We are a study team helping SANE to find out.
You are invited to take part because you have used a SANE service.
We would like to hear what it was like for you.

This information tells you
- What happens if you take part
- Some things you need to know about the study
- What to do if you want to take part.

You can
- choose to be part of the study
or
- choose not to be part of the study
It’s up to you.
Your choice about taking part will not make any difference to the services you use.

What happens if you take part?

You will have to tick a consent form on a computer.
The form says you
- understand what will happen in the study
- agree to be part of the study

This is called giving consent.
You can see the consent form in the survey.

You may be asked about consent to give your email to the study team.
You can give your email if are interested in talking with the study team about your experience at SANE. It’s up to you.
If you give your email, the study team will let you know more about how these conversations would happen.

This study will look at answers to the survey questions from people who get help from SANE.
This will help SANE to make sure the service is the best it can be.

If you choose to be in this study you will agree for SANE to share your answers with the study team.
SANE will not give the study team any names.
SANE will not give any information about what you talk about when you get help.

Things to know about this study

There are benefits and risks in helping with a study.

The benefits of this study are
- your information will help us learn if SANE is helpful
- if SANE is helpful more people might be able to get help
- you might not have any benefit

The risks of this study are low.
To give your consent for SANE to share your answers you only need to tick the consent form.
You do this by ticking a box when you do the SANE survey.

SANE is open weekdays 10am to 8pm
- Lifeline on 13 11 44 anytime

We will
- Keep your answers private - only the study team will see your information
- Keep your information on a safe computer. It will be deleted 15 years after the study is finished.
- Never use your name when we talk or write about the study

When the study is finished information will be on the SANE website, www.sane.org
You can ask for a summary.
The study team might
- talk at conferences and meetings about the study
- write about the study

The study is being run by a study team from some universities.
The study team has a lot of experience in studies like this.
The study is funded by the Australian government.

What to do if you want to take part

Remember, it’s your choice

You can
- give consent for SANE to share the answers you have filled in for the SANE survey
- choose not to take part.
It’s up to you.

You can decide to stop being part of the study.
It is okay to change your mind.

If you want to stop being part of the study, your information can be deleted.
In the future, if you wanted to stop being part of the study, please tell the study team.

There are people at the universities whose job is to make sure that each study is safe and private. They are called ethics committees.
They have checked this study.
They said it was okay to do.
