This is a research project conducted by an external organisation. It may be of interest to people affected by complex mental illness. To find out more about the project below, contact the researchers directly.

We are conducting research on empathic response in people suffering from borderline personality disorder (borderline group) and people who do not have any history of mental illnesses (control group). We are interested in measuring emotions and emotional responses.

Participants must:

  • Borderline group
Participants must have a lived experience of BPD (professional diagnosis is not mandatory)
  • Control group
People who have never had any history of mental illnesses.
  • English as a first language.
  • Not be under the influence of any drugs or alcohol whilst participating.

Participants will be required to complete an online questionnaire. This will involve providing some general information (for example. your age, gender), then rating various statements in relation to your views and experience regarding feelings and emotional states. You will also be shown pictures of people displaying different emotional states in order to answer further relevant questions. The questionnaire should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete.
