This year's Sydney Royal Easter Show included an attraction titled 'Psycho Sideshow of Anarchy'. The sideshow featured acts such as sword swallowing and spoon bending. Use of the word psycho implies that it is fun to have a mental illness or that people with a mental illness are being ridiculed.
StigmaWatch wrote to the NSW Royal Agricultural Society about the sideshow on 15.3.07.
John Aitken, NSW RAS General Manager of Events and Marketing, expressed concern and apologised for any distress caused. Mr Aitken suggested he contact StigmaWatch for advice on any future marketing that may be stigmatising.
