OCD just a bit of fun
StigmaWatch - Stigma Files 2007
Wednesday, 26 September 2007

Canberra radio station 104.7FM's breakfast show with Scotty and Nige, invited listeners to call in with comical stories about their personal 'OCD' experiences, on 7.8.07. While not intending to cause harm, the program made light of obsessive compulsive disorder and stigmatised the often very disabling symptoms of the illness, as being humorous.

StigmaWatch brought this issue to the attention of hosts Mr Scott Masters and Mr Nigel Johnson, encouraging them to consider their listeners who have been seriously affected by OCD - and how they may be adding to the stigma of the illness by making fun of it.

Mr Scott Masters gave the following response: 'We do realise OCD is a real problem faced by people all the time, but in this instance, it's just about a bit of fun, something all those who rang up understood'.
