StigmaWatch contacted Mr Lyons to emphasise the difference between a 'psychopath,' which does not refer to mental illness, and someone experiencing psychosis. StigmaWatch urged Mr Lyons to avoid using language that wrongly suggests violent killers are likely to have a mental illness. 

Mr Lyons expressed genuine regret for the choice of words, stating that he fully understands the issues and the need for caution when using terms like psychotic. 

People with a mental illness are statistically more likely to be the victims of violence than the perpetrators.
