On 1.4.07 The Mildura Independent published the article 'Grave Worries,' which expressed doubt over whether Councillor Sharon Morrison truly had a medical condition. The publication named Cr Morrison and the mental illness she had privately advised colleagues she was experiencing; and questioned the truth of that diagnosis.

Diseases such as diabetes, are not questioned in this way. This sort of speculation adds to the misunderstanding of the seriousness of mental illness. Due to stigma, publicly disclosing a person's diagnosis may impact badly on their life within the community.

StigmaWatch contacted The Mildura Independent about these issues, urging them to show greater respect for the privacy and health of Cr Morrison.
