Nando's Australia ran a television advertisement featuring a woman in a strait jacket, with the voice over 'Can't be trusted around cutlery - get a Nando's patch'. 

Viewers expressing distress and outrage at the advertisement inundated StigmaWatch with complaints.  SANE Australia wrote to Mr Norman Picker, Managing Director of Nando's on 07.07.06 urging him to consider community concerns and withdraw the advertisement immediately.

Mr Picker replied on 12.07.06 stating: 

''...offer our unreserved and heartfelt apology... The offending advertisement ends its run at the end of the week and will not reappear without the necessary modification being made."
