Listeners to Melbourne radio station Nova 100 on 27.07.06 were distressed to hear people's 'entertaining' habits and personal rituals labelled as 'obsessive compulsive disorder' (OCD).
SANE Australia wrote to Nova 100 to convey community concerns and highlight the true nature of OCD as a distressing and disabling medical condition.
Sam Thompson, General Manager of Nova 100 replied on 04.09.0:
'We take all feedback seriously and it is not our intention to offend... We recognise that inappropriate use was made of the label 'obsessive compulsive disorder'...We sincerely regret that the piece might have caused upset.'
'We would like to advise listeners of the SANE helpline and to run some community service announcements on Nova 100.'
