Journalist Mark Day wrote about John Alexander 'This has led to an intriguingly schizophrenic portrait painted by his colleagues. Some talk of his media skills; others offer scarifying descriptions of a cold, calculating and manipulative man.'
Mr Days's comments were published in the article 'Power behind Packer' (The Australian, on 30.06.06). StigmaWatch received reports from readers affected by schizophrenia, distressed that Mr Day
and The Australian were perpetuating the notion of schizophrenia as a split personality.
SANE Australia wrote to Mr Day urging him to avoid using 'schizophrenic' to denote duality; schizophrenia does not involve split
personality.
