The Sydney Morning Herald reporter Natasha Wallace gave a detailed description of the method of suicide in the article ‘Not guilty, but left to languish until suicide’ on 29.11.05.

SANE Australia wrote to Ms Wallace and the editor of The Sydney Morning Herald on 30.11.05, referring them to the Australian Government's guidelines that advise against detailed reporting of the method of suicide.

Ms Wallace replied on 05.12.05, expressing concern about the impact of her article. SANE Australia appreciates the time that journalists take to engage in this issue and have encouraged Ms Wallace to minimise potential negative impacts upon vulnerable people when reporting suicide.
