A sensational headline in The Australian highlighted a method of suicide to draw attention to a new book about depressing songs on 22.09.05. SANE Australia wrote to the Deputy Editor of The Australian on 29.09.05 advising him that media reports should avoid unnecessary or sensational references to suicide and self-harm. Such references may 'normalise' suicide and self-harm, leading vulnerable people to see it as an acceptable option.
