Detailed descriptions of suicide and self-harm were contained within three news articles by Australian Associated Press (AAP) journalists on the 8th, 11th and 22nd of September 2005. This brings the total to five separate AAP news reports in recent months, which have featured details of self-harm and caused readers distress.

SANE Australia wrote to AAP again on 23.09.05, referring them the Australian Government's guidelines on reporting suicide and mental illness. SANE Australia also offered to assist in the training of AAP reporters around this issue.

Executive Director of SANE Australia, Barbara Hocking, spoke with AAP Bureau Chief Nalita Ferraz in October 2005. During the friendly conversation, Ms Ferraz said that she always passed our feedback onto the relevant sub-editors.
