SANE Australia wrote to Mr Walker on 28.09.05, referring him to the Australian Government's guidelines on reporting suicide and mental illness. The guidelines advise that media reports should avoid detailed discussion of the method of self-harm to reduce the potential for imitation.

SANE Australia also urged the Courier Mail to encourage help-seeking behaviour in its readers by including helpline numbers.
