The April edition of Good Medicine magazine included a 16 page 'pull-out' feature about anxiety disorders, authored by Dr Andrew Page. The feature was also available on the Good Medicine website.
The
article contained accurate information, which would assist readers in
the early identification of problem anxiety and emphasised treatments.
The normalisation of anxiety disorders - by highlighting that they are
real, common and treatable - helps to reduce stigma and facilitate help
seeking. Finally, the article promoted
awareness of support services, including the contact details for
relevant services and websites. Readers were also encouraged to see their GP.
StigmaWatchers also drew attention to a second article in Good Medicine
April 2006 - an interview with Jessica Rowe.
Ms Rowe is quoted speaking openly and honestly about her experience as
a carer of a parent with mental illness.
