Michael Sheather's article entitled
'I never got to say goodbye: Dermott Brereton's suicide' in Australian Womens Weekly is a good example of how to report suicide in a helpful and responsible way.
The August 2006
article was reflected many Mindframe recommendations on reporting mental illness and suicide. There is research evidence to suggest that the way suicide is reported has the potential to influence rates of suicide in the community. Reports such as this, which present suicide as a tragic loss and discuss how it might be prevented, may actually help to reduce the risk of suicide.
