The SANE Media Centre promotes and supports the accurate and responsible portrayal of mental illness and suicide within the Australian media.
The Media Centre provides the media and the mental health sector with guidance about reporting and portrayal of mental illness and suicide-related issues. This is achieved by providing a ‘one-stop’ service of information, expert comment, advice and referral.
SANE Media Centre:
- Provides Australian media professionals with guidance and support to responsibly report mental illness and suicide.
- Helps the mental health sector work with the media to share stories of people living with mental illness
- Reflects and acts on community feedback and concern about media stories through the StigmaWatch program
- Assists students researching issues related to mental illness and suicide
The SANE Media Centre is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, under the National Suicide Prevention Strategy.
