Mathematical genius and Nobel Prize winner, John Forbes Nash has lived with schizophrenia for over thirty years.
John Nash invented one of the most influential mathematics theories of
our time - game theory. In his early thirties, at the height of his
career, he experienced a psychotic
episode and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Nash spent almost three
decades suffering from severe delusions, hallucinations and disordered
thought. By his sixties, with improved treatment and time, his symptoms
abated. Soon after, he received the prestigious Nobel Prize for his
development of economic equilibrium theory using the methods of
calculus.
Russell Crowe
plays John Forbes Nash in 'A Beautiful Mind' directed by Ron Howard and
based on the biography of the same name by Sylvia Nasar. The film was
released in Australia in February 2002.
