Research conducted
for the Commonwealth governnment confirms what callers tell SANE
Australia daily on its 1800 Helpline. That Australians affected by
mental illness put up with a lot more than their symptoms - stigma and
discrimination, lack of access to effective treatment and support and
little or no help for family and other carers. It doesn't have to be
like this.
The SANE Charter gives all Australians a
chance to support a better life for people affected by mental illness.
It calls for an end to the prejudice, loneliness and poverty people
with mental illness face.
Making the charter a
reality not only means dramatic improvement in services, but also a
change in attitude - so that Australians affected by mental illness are
truly accepted in our community.
The SANE Charter sets out four core principles which provide a vision for a better life for Australians with mental illness.
Add your name to the Charter to help make a difference and join over a
hundred prominent Australians, including Dawn Fraser and Tim Winton.
