SANE Mental Health Report: a system in crisis...

SANE Australia's report on what thousands of Australians think about the mental health service they receive reveals a mental health system in crisis.

The main findings from the 'SANE Mental Health Report 2002-2003' reveal that mental health services are in disarray around the country; effective treatments are not available under Medicare; the cost of schizophrenia will spiral to $10 billion a year this decade unless services improve, and a faltering Mental Health Plan with urgent action needed on the National Mental Health Strategy.

The Report examines how well the mental health strategy has performed against the fundamentals of the SANE Charter. The Report also examines each State and Territory individually, noting specifc recommendations.
