Smoking and Mental Illness: Costs
A study commissioned from Access Economics by SANE Australia shows that people with a mental illness now make up almost 40% of smokers, receive little or no support to quit and pay a terrible cost for this neglect. Physical health
A major concern of SANE Australia is the physical health of people with
mental illness. To this end, practical guides to reduce/quit smoking and maintain a healthy lifestyle have been developed. SANE Australia was also a partner in The Body and Mind Project, which looked into why people with mental illness have such poor physical health.
